After hearing Susie's story remember to think about the ways YOU cope with stress. While we can't often change the things that happen to us, we can change the way that we react to it - which in turn changes how we experience stress.
In the Problem Focused Coping example Susie decides to confront her problems directly by speaking with her brothers. This allowed Susie to express her concerns. Doing this eased her anxiety and helped them come up with a plan that worked for everyone.
In the Avoidance Coping example Susie decided to delay addressing her problems. That decision didn't help Susie feel any better because she was still anxious about all she must do.
In the Emotional Support Coping example Susie discovers the relief that she can experience by talking to a trusted friend who supports her and listens to her concerns.
